The National Organization of Women (NOW) has begun bashing David Letterman for the recent sex scandal that has begun swirling around him. This is beginning to irritate me; and it's not because I'm a Ball State student. The real story with Letterman is the fact that someone is trying to extort him. Now, before I go any further I will say that yes, he screwed up and had an affair which he shouldn't have done, but, he has come out publicly and apologized and we have to give the man credit where it's due. We have to give him credit for not trying to pull a Bill Clinton. Now, to get to the main point, the issue of NOW saying that "this sheds light on the objectification of women in the workspace." I am not sexist, burn your bra, don't shave your legs, whatever. But I have issues with NOW not taking into consideration what the female employee was thinking and doing. It takes two to tango, otherwise it becomes the rape dance. Letterman is not the only guilty dirty mind in this story. The woman, I'm not going to say names cause no one is sure yet, is just as guilty as Letterman for choosing to have the affair with him.
"But Bobby, isn't Letterman just taking advantage by using his celebrity status?"
My answer to this is no. Ask around, there are plenty of people, men and woman, who are WILLING to give some action to a celebrity because they are a celebrity. My point here, cause I'm having a hard time today chaining this all together, is this. Letterman made a mistake; but he wasn't the only person who did. The employee chose to have the affair. I'm not saying it wasn't a mistake. I'm saying that you can't just blame Letterman; once again, it takes two to tango.
