Sorry for not posting

Hey everyone, sorry for not posting something lately. I've been very busy with classes and some of my classes have had finals so I've been a little busy. To make up for this I'm giving you a sneak peek look at one of the photos I submitted today for the football game that I covered. I promise that I'll start posting some new stuff soon. So thank you my loyal and loving followers for being so forgiving. Meanwhile, two new episodes of Bobblecast have been released and they are now the most downloaded things from the Daily News website. Thank you for those responsible for that. So once again, sorry for the non-posting.

Suicide Bombing

Ok, now I know that at times I've seemed a bit right winged when I talk about Iran. Today I've got a different tune to sing though. A suicide bomber that has been linked to the terrorist organization Jundallah killed around 28 people in Iran on Sunday. The attack happened during a meeting between Sunni and Shia military groups which have been in conflict for some time. Some of the victims were members of Iran's infamous Revolutionary Guard which was in the area to mediate the meeting. Jundallah states that it is fighting for the rights of Sunni muslims in Iran; while Iran says that the orgainzation is being funded by the US and Saudi Arabia. Of course I can't really say that the group is being funded by whoever, in fact, I've never heard of this group before so I don't really know anything about them. Any terroist group, no matter what their cause, does not help the group they're representing. Terroist group are exteremist, they're Glenn Beck if he had access to high explosives. I'm interested in seeing how this plays out.

Election Scandal in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan right now there's a nice little thing going on called the Electoral Complaints Commission. Now, I know, I know, there would never be an election scandal in a country that the U.S. bombed back to the stone age and then backed up one of the candidates. But, believe it or not, there is and fixing it has just gotten a little bit harder. One of the five members of the Electoral Complaints Commission, Mustafa Barakzai, has quite saying that the commission was overly influenced by foreigners. Now, I'm a little suspicious of Barakzai's loyalties; however, I can definitely see where he's coming from considering that out of five members the commission is made up of three non-afghans. Now, the commission has already said that President Hamid Karzai will, in reality, not get the 50 percent of the votes that he will need to officially win the election. Now, for the U.S. I know this is probably a sad time considering he was the guy that we backed up. Yes, good old west backed Karzai, the man who signed a bill into law stating that men have the right to starve their wives if the don't provide them with sex twice a week. Full story on CNN.com

Clinton's on the Offense

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called out the government of Guinea Tuesday by saying that the crimes it committed against protesters was a "...vile violation of the rights of the people in that country." She also stated that the Guinean government should offer a "profound apology" to the people. She also said that United States will take appropriate actions against the Guinean government.
Now, wait a minute. Let's remember why we're here in the first place. On September 28th protesters marched in opposition to the leadership of Capt. Moussa Dadis Camara to which he responded by having his soldiers shoot and rape them, and it's estimated that soldiers killed around 160 protesters. Now, personally I think this calls for just a little bit more that an apology. It's kinda hard to "sorry" that one away. Personally I think that the UN should make movements to hold the Guinean government responsible for this. But, I'm not naive enough to think that they will. In the eyes of the west it's just another case of Africans killing Africans.

Let the Letterman Be

The National Organization of Women (NOW) has begun bashing David Letterman for the recent sex scandal that has begun swirling around him. This is beginning to irritate me; and it's not because I'm a Ball State student. The real story with Letterman is the fact that someone is trying to extort him. Now, before I go any further I will say that yes, he screwed up and had an affair which he shouldn't have done, but, he has come out publicly and apologized and we have to give the man credit where it's due. We have to give him credit for not trying to pull a Bill Clinton. Now, to get to the main point, the issue of NOW saying that "this sheds light on the objectification of women in the workspace." I am not sexist, burn your bra, don't shave your legs, whatever. But I have issues with NOW not taking into consideration what the female employee was thinking and doing. It takes two to tango, otherwise it becomes the rape dance. Letterman is not the only guilty dirty mind in this story. The woman, I'm not going to say names cause no one is sure yet, is just as guilty as Letterman for choosing to have the affair with him.
"But Bobby, isn't Letterman just taking advantage by using his celebrity status?"
My answer to this is no. Ask around, there are plenty of people, men and woman, who are WILLING to give some action to a celebrity because they are a celebrity. My point here, cause I'm having a hard time today chaining this all together, is this. Letterman made a mistake; but he wasn't the only person who did. The employee chose to have the affair. I'm not saying it wasn't a mistake. I'm saying that you can't just blame Letterman; once again, it takes two to tango.

Podcast

My friend Sam Householder, who is also the assistant photo editor for the Daily News, and I are getting together today to write a script for a podcast that I've been planning for a little bit. The premise of the podcast is to be a news comedy thing. Sorta like the Daily Show, or more closely, The Bugle podcast; which I'm sure no one has checked out. But hey, I'm not here to judge. Anyway, when we get it recorded and up I'll be sure to post a link and you can hear Sam and I making fun of Ball State and world news. Hopefully it turns out well.

U.N. inspects Iran this month

U.N. Inspectors are going to be going into Iran to look at the recently revealed nuclear power plant on Oct. 25. According to information gathered by the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran has gotten sufficient information to build an atomic weapon. Now, I know that there are those out there that say, "Why don't we just let Iran be? Who are we to say what they can and can't do?" Well, it's not just us. The United States is not the only country taking notice of what Iran is doing. The international community as a whole, I can promise you, will be holding their breath until the inspectors release their findings. Why is this? Because, Iran is a large nation that is ruled by a religious leader and a radical one at that. Plus there's this, if a country is making nuclear weapons it's a good idea to kinda keep an eye on it. A country with nuclear weapons, including the U.S., is like an educated six year old with a gun. They know what it can do, they know not to play with it, but...get them mad enough and their emotions just might get the best of them. Anyway, let me know what you think. And check out CNN.com for the full story.

WWJD? (What Would Jimmy Do?)

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's former President Jimmy Carter! Former United States President Jimmy Carter, or JC for short, is a busy guy. When he's not building houses and calling out extreme right-winged racist he's giving advice on how to deal with the crazy sandbox that we like to call Iran. Carter stated on Thursday that he thinks the U.S. should take a diplomatic approach to the Iranian nuclear program. Carters brought up the very good point that as far as everyone know so far Iran has done nothing wrong. Iran does have a right to enrich plutonium for energy purposes and the best thing that the UN and United States should do is approach this diplomatically and stop hinting towards attacking Iran with Israel as our tag team partner. Now I can see where Carter is coming from. Let's face it, if the political world were a mental hospital Iran would definitely be a patient with a padded room (denying the Holocaust is just a little hard to call normal). So, it's probably not a very good idea to poke this sleeping, soon to be nuclear, bear to hard with our super power stick. However, like any other patient Iran needs looking after. Iranian officials have said that they'll let in UN inspectors but they haven't set a time line as of yet. My basic point is that Carter is right, approach this problem directly but diplomatically.
